A celebration of her life & music

PALACE THEATRE, SOUTHEND

 This concert series celebrates the enduring legacy of NYJO alumna, Amy Winehouse, reimagining hits and revisiting early works she sang with the 24-piece National Youth Jazz Orchestra as a promising 16-year-old singer, back in 2000. We aim to honour her life, and her work, with a performance that fans of big band jazz, and Amy obsessives will enjoy together.

The Mukasa Collective are an electric and passionate group of musicians reminiscing from the era of jazz fusion and beyond. 

The group is a mixture of 6 talented musicians who have a very eclectic taste and bring their experience from gigging with various named artists and have also performed in many iconic venues including Wembley Arena, Jazz Caf and Ronnie Scotts.They combine their love of improvisation mixed with solid grooves and melodic undertones. Their influences include Chick Corea, Dave Weckl, Herbie Hancock and Richard Bona just to mention a few.

With a name inspired by a Dizzy Gillespie classic, "Con Alma" is a modern jazz quartet made up for four well respected musicians, well known to the local jazz scene.

Drums:  Simon Harwood - Piano:  Tim Huskisson - Guitar:  Mike Sagrott - Bass:  Roger Curphey

Con Alma, whose name literally translates as "with soul" will be joined for this special Southend Jazz Festival show by special guest Mick Foster, one of the UK's foremost exponents of the Baritone Saxophone.

MOVIE: PROFOUNDLY BLUE

THE JAZZ CENTRE UK, SOUTHEND

'Profoundly Blue' was a live show put together by Adrian Cox, one of the world's best and most charismatic clarinettists, celebrating the life and music of the great Edmond Hall. He toured the show all over the world for more than two years, including an incredible performance at the 2019 Southend Jazz Festival.

The concert has now been immortalised in this stunning movie, produced by the Bear Club in Luton, which features narration by Adrian and beautiful cinematography of the live music performances.
